‘Student politics being stigmatised for few’
The High Court has released full text of its verdict on sensational Biswajit Das murder case with an observation that student politics is being stigmatised because of some youth.
The HC bench of Justice Md Ruhul Quddus and Justice Bhishmadev Chakrabortty in their observation, said “Before parting, we would like to note that the glorious student politics on this land having long history of heroic struggle is being seriously stigmatized because of some youths, who in the name of the student politics are involved in organized criminal activities.”
The HC judges on August 6 delivered the verdict on the death reference and appeals in the murder case.
Biswajit Das, a tailor-shop employee, was hacked to death in broad daylight in Dhaka by the activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League, a front organisation of ruling Awami League during a countrywide road blockade on December 9, 2012.
The judges observed, “Some time they (youth) need to show their power as strength openly and notoriously to make their domination absolute in their area. Some so called political leaders patronized them for their own interest”.
“We have seen in the newspaper that the teachers are beaten by them because of not being allowed to copy in the public examinations. In many students dormitory, they (youth) take administration in their own hand to allot seat to the general students on rental basis.”
“They (youth) also compelled the general students to participate in their profession and meeting to add extra credit to their credential by showing greater number of participation. It is really alarming and disappointing situation. The nation wants to get rid of it,” the HC observed.
“It is, therefore, expected that responsible national leaders, who are in power and opposition, address this problem in adapting policy regarding student politics and movement.”
