BNP candidate stabbed in Dinajpur’s Birampur
In continuation of the growing violence ahead of December 30 municipal election, a BNP candidate of Dinajpur’s Birampur upazila was stabbed last night.
The victim was Md Azadul Islam Azad, BNP’s mayor candidate for Birampur municipality, our Dinajpur correspondent reports quoting police.
The incident took place in Islampur area when Azad was returning home on a rickshaw after completing his pre-election campaign, locals said.
He sustained stab wounds on the head and right hand, said Md Amiruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Birampur Police Station. He said it was the doing of “unidentified assailants”.
Rushed to Birampur Upazila Health Complex immediately, Azad was later shifted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital after his condition deteriorated.
PANCHAGARH AL CANDIDATE SHOW-CAUSED
Panchagarh municipality Awami League-sponsored mayor aspirant Zakia Khatun was show-caused for using loudspeakers after 8:00pm last night, our Thakurgaon correspondent reports.
Returning officer, also the additional deputy commissioner of Panchagarh, Md Mahmudul Alam issued the show-cause around 10:30pm last night. Zakia was asked to reply in 24 hours.
Loudspeakers can only be used between 2:00pm and 8:00pm as per the electoral code of conduct.
