BNP wants army in Rangpur city polls
BNP today alleged that a level playing field has not been created for the Rangpur City Corporation election and demanded the deployment of army to this effect.
“The Awami League-nominated candidate is violating the electoral code, the Election Commission is not taking any action,” alleged Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, senior joint secretary general of the party.
“But BNP nominated candidate has been warned from the commission repeatedly,” he said, blaming the Election Commission of showing favouritism.
Addressing a press briefing at party’s Nayapaltan headquarters, the BNP leader said: “We think that level playing field for all the candidate is yet to be created. Election commission is yet to create a congenial atmosphere for holding a free, fair and acceptable election there.”
Rizvi alleged that the voters are in fear and in such a situation it is not possible to hold a free and fair election.
He demanded of deployment of army with magistracy power in Rangpur city polls.
