BSF kills 1 along Lalmonirhat frontier
Indian Border Security Force gunned down a Bangladeshi cattle trader and shot another in the Indian territory opposite to Patgram upazila of Lalmonirhat early today.
The deceased was identified as Antor Islam, 27, son of Aminur Islam and a resident of Railway Colony in the upazila, reports our Lalmonirhat correspondent.
BSF took the body to their camp, a Border Guard Bangladesh official said.
Bullet-wounded Raju Islam, 28, was admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
BGB sources said six to seven Bangladeshi cattle traders were returning to Bangladesh from India through Burimari border with cattle around 4:30am.
Sensing their presence, the BSF patrol team of Changrabandha camp in Paschimbanga opened fired targeting the cattle traders in the Masterbari area.
Antor died on the spot while the others managed to enter Bangladesh territory with bullet-hit Raju.
Lieutenant Colonel Ahmad Bajlur Rahman Hayati, commanding officer of the Border Guard Bangladesh Lalmonirhat battalion, said they have already sent a letter protesting the killing and demanding immediate return of the body.
The paramilitary force also called a flag meeting over the incident but did not get any response, the BGB official said in the morning.
