BTRC chief’s appointment cancelled before taking charge

The government today appointed a new chairman to the telecom regulator after cancelling the appointment of another before his taking the charge.

As per the latest move, Shahjahan Mahmood will replace Sunil Kanti Bose as chairman of Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) after his contract ends on October 22.

Shahjahan will continue as the BTRC chief till May 11 of 2018, according to a gazette notification issued by the public administration ministry.

Earlier on August 25, the government had appointed Iqbal Mahmud, a former telecom secretary, as chairman of the BTRC.
