BTRC likely to raise mobile recharge limit
The telecom regulator has decided to revise the daily recharge limit for a single mobile phone number from Tk 500 it set earlier considering the inconvenience of subscribers.
"We have decided to revisit the decision considering the inconvenience of the subscribers," said Shahjahan Mahmood, chairman of the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC).
He made the comments after a meeting with mobile phone operators at his office today.
On December 28, the telecom regulator capped the top-up for prepaid mobile connections at Tk 500 per day, much to the exasperation of operators.
All six operators opposed the move, saying it will cause huge inconvenience to subscribers, affect revenues, and impact services and the whole digitisation process. They also requested the telecom regulator to raise the top-up limit to Tk 2,000 a day.
Currently there is no bar on the daily recharge, though Tk 1,000 is the limit for every single recharge.
The BTRC issued a directive to cap the maximum recharge amount, following an order from the government aimed at preventing illegal calls overseas.
