Cabinet okays draft policy for domestic workers
The government today approved a draft policy for protecting and welfare of domestic helps with a provision of registration and legal assistance for them.
Draft of Domestic Help Protection and Welfare Policy-2015 was endorsed in the regular cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Under the policy, the domestic helps would be brought under a registration process, Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam said in a briefing after the meeting.
The law will also act for protection of the employers and their families.
Bangladesh is adopting such policy as the country has been a signatory to 189 section of the Geneva Convention, the cabinet secretary said.
Also, the cabinet approved the drafts of Bangladesh Investment Development Authority Act-2015 and Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank Act-2015 in principles.
The cabinet also approved the president’s speech for the opening 2016’s parliament session.
Each year, at the start of parliament proceedings, the president places a speech before the House highlighting the government’s works in the country.
