Cabinet okays law for partisan local polls

The cabinet today approved the drafts of the law that will allow registered political parties to nominate candidates in the local body elections.

Cabinet Secretary M Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan made the disclosure to reporters following today’s cabinet meeting at the Bangladesh Secretariat.

“After the bill is passed, the local body elections will be held like the national elections. Political parties will nominate their candidates and they will contest the polls under party banners and symbols,” Mosharraf said.
