UP chairman arrested in Habiganj for war crimes
Law enforcers today arrested a union parishad chairman in Baniachang upazila of Habiganj for his alleged involvement in crimes during the 1971 Liberation War.
The arrestee Madhu Mia Talukder is the chairman of Muradpur Union Parishad and also the joint general secretary of Baniachang Upazila unit of BNP.
A team of detective branch of police arrested Talukdar from Court Mosque area in the district town around 12noon, said Md Shah Alam, officer-in-charge of DB police in Habiganj.
He and his men had allegations of killing several people in Bithangal area under Baniachang Upazila of the district during the Liberation War.
Earlier, International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) issued an arrest warrant against him in a case filed for allegedly committing crimes during the Liberation War, the OC added.
