Chief Election Commissioner Nurul Huda today said law-enforcers will conduct operation at the suspected militant hideout in Comilla after Comilla City Corporation election scheduled to be held tomorrow.

The law-enforcers will keep the “den” in Comilla Sadar upazila sealed off and launch operation there in a convenient time after the election, the CEC told The Daily Star.

“IGP and assistant commissioner of police in Comilla told me that they will start operation in a convenient time after the election,” Huda said.

Urging the voters to franchise their votes tomorrow, he said, there is no reason to be worried centering the ‘militant den’.

Earlier in the afternoon, police cordoned off the suspected militant den at a house in Gangamoti area.

Based on information, a team of police surrounded the three-storey building around 4:30 pm, said Abdullah Al Mamun, additional superintendent (South) of police in Comilla.

“Around four to five suspected militants have been holed up inside the building,” Shah Md Abid Hossain, superintendent of police in Comilla, told The Daily Star.

“We have been confirmed that there might be five to six bombs inside the house,” the SP said.
