Japanese killing: 3 unknown people sued

Police today sued three unidentified assailants over yesterday’s murder of Japanese national Hoshi Kunio in Kaunia upazila of Rangpur.

Rezaul Karim, officer-in-charge of Kaunia Police Station, filed the lawsuit, reports our Rangpur correspondent. Mamunur Rashid is the investigating officer of the case.

Hoshi Kunio, 66, was gunned down by unidentified assailants at Alutari in the upazila yesterday morning when he was going by a rickshaw to his grass farm there.

Meanwhile, in the presence of a representative of Japanese embassy and a Japanese doctor, a four-member team was conducting post-mortem of the victim’s body at Rangpur Medical College Hospital morgue today, reports our staff correspondent.

Rafiqul Islam, chairman of RMCH forensic department, was leading the team, the correspondent said.

The killing took place five days after an Italian national was gunned down, in similar fashion, in Dhaka’s diplomatic area Gulshan.

No one has been arrested over either of the killings, but six people have been detained for quizzing over the murder of the Japanese national.

International militant organisation Islamic State (IS) claimed responsibility of both the murders, what Reuters reported.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan has said these two murders “are identical”. However, he remained firm on opinion that there was no IS in the country.

Minister Kamal said such murders were aimed at “creating instability” in the country.

Meanwhile, a top-level police meeting has decided to boost security of diplomats and foreigners in their workplaces and residences after the double murders in space of less than a week.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Hoque has instructed the force to come down hard on those responsible for the murders.

Today, a team of elite force Rapid Action Battalion (Rab), Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and Japanese mission in Dhaka is visiting the crime scene.
