‘Criminal’ killed in ‘gunfight’ with rivals
A ringleader of a local criminal gang was killed in a “gunfight” between two rival groups in Gangni upazila of Meherpur early today.
The deceased was identified as Monirul Islam, son of Roisul Islam of Kasba village in the upazila, our Kushtia correspondent reports.
On information that a gunfight was going on at Kasba village, police raided Kasba-Katchikhali field around 3:45am, Md Obaidur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Gangni Police Station, told our correspondent.
Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the criminals fled the scene leaving bullet-hit Monirul on the spot, he said.
He was rushed to Gangni Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead, the OC said.
Monirul became the leader of the group after his elder brother Jamsed Ali, founder of the criminal group, was killed in a “gunfight” with police in 2015, Md Obaidur Rahman, he added.
