'Criminal' killed in Satkhira 'gunfight'
A suspected criminal was killed in a “gunfight” with police in Sadar upazila of Satkhira early today.
Three policemen were hurt in the incident.
The deceased Nobab Ali Mollah, 38, son of Mujit Mollah of Bakchora village in the upazila, reports our Satkhira correspondent quoting police.
The injured policemen are: Ibrahim Khalil, sub-inspector (SI), Ashikuzzaman and Tuhin Akter, constables, of Sadar Police Station.
Police arrested Mollah recently from Patkelghata in Tala upazila, Maruf Ahmed, officer-in-charge (OC), told the correspondent.
Mollah, who had 15 cases on different charges including murder, robbery and mugging, remained on hiding before he got arrest recently.
Based on his information that he has arms in his possession, a team of law enforcers went to Abaderhat area around 4:00am, the OC said.
At one point, the cohorts of Mollah fired gunshots at the police from an abandoned house triggering the gunfight, the police official said.
The four victims including Mollah were rushed to Satkhira Sadar Hospital where doctors at the emergency ward pronounced him dead, Faruk Ahmed, a doctor of the ward, said.
He was brought dead to the hospital around 6:00am. The doctor said.
The deceased had two bullet wounds on both sides of his chest, he added.
Meanwhile, law enforcers recovered a pistol, one bullet, two sharp weapons and two knives from the spot in Abaderhat, the correspondent reports quoting police.
