CU cancels studentship of 3 ‘JMB suspects’
Chittagong University authorities today cancelled the studentship of its three students three days after their detention as “JMB suspects”.
Acting on the information given by the trio, law enforcers later busted a JMB den at Hathazari in the port city and recovered a semi-automatic sniper rifle, two magazines of the rifle, 5kg gel explosive, 13 army uniforms, a pair of badges of army major rank, 252 bullets including 186 of sniper rifle, 25 detonators, bomb-making materials and documents of the outfit.
The students are Naimur Rahman Nayan, a fourth year student, Faisal Mahmud and Shawkat Russell, both masters students. All of them are students of physics department, reports our Chittagong University correspondent.
Assistant proctor of the university, Niaz Morshed told The Daily Star that the vice-chancellor of the university made the decision exercising his executive power.
Contacted, Proctor Ali Asgar Chowdhury said if the students are proven not guilty, they will be able to continue their studies at the university.
