Deals inked to make 60km Joydevpur-Tangail road 4-lane
The road transport and bridges ministry this evening signed three contracts with three joint ventures to expand 60km Joydevpur-Tangail road into a four-lane one.
The signing ceremony took place at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in presence of Road Transport and Bridges Ministry Obaidul Quader and Bridges Division Secretary MAN Siddique.
Under the three contracts of Tk 2,008 crore, the joint ventures will upgrade 60-km road from Joydevpur to Tangail.
Chief Engineer of Roads and Highways Department (RHD) Feroz Iqbal and representatives of the joint ventures signed the contracts under which the firms will also construct a separate lane along the road for slow-moving vehicles.
RHD officials said they will soon sign one more contract with another joint venture to expand the rest 10-km from Tangail to Elenga. They said the narrow but chaotic road will be expanded in three years.
Speaking as chief guest, Quader said the physical works of the four-lane project will begin at the end of this month and hoped that the expansion of the road will be completed within the stipulated period.
