Death by lightning: Farmers, labourers’ families to be compensated

The government will give Tk 2 lakh compensation to each family of farmers and labourers killed by lightning, State Minister for Labour Mujibul Haque Chunnu announced today. 

The state minister said this at a press conference at his secretariat office around 12:40pm.

Many farmers and labourers fall victims to lightning strikes during this season.

At least 15 people were killed in lightning only yesterday as nor'wester raged through the country.

Rozina’s family also to get compensation

The family members of Rozina Akhtar, who died yesterday nine days after she lost her leg in a road accident in Dhaka’s Banani area, will also get a compensation of Tk 2 lakh, the minister said at the briefing.

Rozina, 18, originally from Mymensingh, was working as a domestic help in Banani.
