‘Dec 20-24 suitable for municipal polls’
An election commissioner today said it will be suitable for the Election Commission (EC) if municipal polls are held in the third week of December.
“It is my personal view that it will be suitable for the commission if we can arrange the elections in between December 20 and December 24,” said Election Commissioner Brig Gen (retd) Md Zabed Ali.
Talking to reporters at his EC Secretariat office today, Zabed said they prefer the time because the voter list revising work is scheduled to begin on January 2 and the SSC exams in February.
“If voting in any polling centre is stayed, re-election can be held within December,” Zabed Ali added.
The election commissioner also hoped that if all the work is completed, election schedule might be announced next week.
Earlier in June, EC officials said elections to around 245 out of 317 municipalities are likely to be held in December and the rest in phases later.
