Derailment halts Sylhet-Chittagong-Dhaka rail service for 2hrs
Rail communication of Sylhet with Dhaka and Chittagong resumed two hours into its suspension following derailment of a freight train at Shayestaganj Railway Junction in Habiganj today.
The rail service was restored around 1:45pm after a relief train reached there and salvaged the two derailed compartments of the cargo train, our Moulvibazar correspondent reports quoting Ruhul Amin, deputy engineer of the railway junction.
Earlier around 11:45am, the compartments of the Dhaka-bound oil-laden train derailed snapping rail communications on the routes, he said.
Two passenger trains -- Parabat Express and Joyantika Express – were stranded following the derailment, Md Bakkar Siddique, officer-in-charge of Sreemangal Railway Police Station, said.
