DU student losses legs under train wheels in Sirajganj

A Dhaka University student lost both of his legs as a train ran over him at Shahid M Monsur Ali Railway Station in Sirajganj this morning.

The victim Shafikul Islam Shanto, 22, son of Sajahan Ali Master of Boro-Chakli village in Sirajganj Sadar upazila, is a second-year student of the mathematics department of the university, railway police said.

Shanto tried to get in a Dhaka-bound intercity train from Sirajganj when the train was leaving the platform around 7:00 am, Sayed Iqbal, officer-in-charge of Sirajganj Government Railway Police (GRP), told our local correspondent.

At one point, Shanto fell on the rail tracks and lost both of his legs, the GRP official said.

Later, locals took him to Sirajganj General Hospital from where he was shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for better treatment, he added.
