Drug trader killed in Naogaon gunfight: Police
A suspected drug trader was killed in a “gunfight” between detectives and drug traders in Naogaon earlier today, after his arrest from Manda upazila.
The deceased, identified as Aurangazeb Jebu, 45, was arrested with drugs in his possession from Delubaria area of the upazila on Monday evening, our Natore correspondent reports, quoting Abdul Mannan Mia, superintendent of police (SP) in Naogaon.
On his information, a team of Naogaon Detective Branch along with Jebu went to Bharsho area to recover more drugs at around 3:00am, said the SP.
Drug traders in the area started firing at the law enforcers when they sensed police presence, forcing the lawmen to fire back and triggering a gunfight, the police official added.
As the gunfight ensued, three cops and Jebu were injured, he added.
The four injured were rushed to Manda Upazila Health Complex were doctors declared Jebu dead, the SP said.
The injured cops, including Assistant Sub Inspector Mehdi Hasan, Constable Rumon Hossain and Constable Shimul Mir, were shifted to Naogaon General Hospital for continued treatment, he added.
Jubu was accused in at least 12 drug related cases with different police stations, the SP said.
