Durga Puja holiday now Oct 22
The government has decided to shift this year's public holiday on Durga Puja from October 23 to October 22.
The decision was made following the demand of Mahanagar Sarbojonin Puja Committee, Cabinet Secretary Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan told reporters after the regular cabinet meeting today.
During the start of this year, calendars were printed marking October 23 as the Bijoya Dashami, a public holiday.
But the Puja committee has been demanding a shift in the holiday since the hour of Dashami, according to Hindu calendar, begins on October 22.
On October 22, Bijoya Dashami will be celebrated, announcing end of the Hindus' largest festival in Bangladesh.
