Ensure freedom of NHRC: Mizanur

National Human Rights Commission Chairman Prof Mizanur Rahman today called upon the government to take steps to ensure freedom of the commission.

He made the call while addressing a discussion meeting at Cirdap Auditorium in Dhaka this afternoon.

“Mere creation of an institution like NHRC probably is not enough. It needs to be supported so that freedom of the commission is ensured,” he said.

He also drew the attention of the Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, who was present as chief guest in the programme, into his demands.

NHRC organised the consultation meeting on its second five year strategy plan of 2016 to 2020.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam, State minister for Women and Children Affairs Meher Afroz Chumki and other government and non-government stake holders addressed the meeting.
