Ensure rights, security of female migrants: TIB
Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) today called out to the government for ensuring the rights and security of female migrants in the Middle-East.
It is the responsibility of the government to ensure rights, security, and legal assistance to these workers, said TIB Executive Director Dr Iftekharuzzaman.
In the last week of June alone, 120 female migrant workers came back home with stories of horrific torture, abuse and humiliation, TIB said in a statement issued today. In May, 260 others returned over similar reasons.
The return of female migrant workers from Middle East after being subjected to torture, abuse and fraudulence is a glaring instance of lack of good administration in the country’s migration sector, said Dr Iftekharuzzaman.
“We urge the government to take steps to rehabilitate and compensate these abused female workers and also take effective measures to prevent this from happening again,” he said.
