Law Minister Anisul Huq today said he has asked the prosecution concerned to take preparations for moving Abrar Fahad murder case before court as per directives from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

“The prosecution concerned has already been asked to take preparations for moving Abrar Fahad murder case before the court speedily as per directives from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The trial proceedings of the case will begin as soon as the police will submit charge sheet of the case to the trial court,” he said.

The law minister made the remark while talking to reporters after a meeting with a delegation of European Union led by its Ambassador to Bangladesh Rensje Teerink at his secretariat office this afternoon.

He said the government will take necessary steps to hold the trial of Abrar murder case and to ensure justice quickly.

The minister also said the offences committed in the name of ragging at the educational institutions will be tried under the existing laws.

“Any kind of torture including slapping in the name of ragging is an offence under the Penal Code of the country. If anybody lodge complains of being tortured in the name of ragging, the offence will be tried under the existing laws,” he said.

Abrar was beaten to death allegedly by some Bangladesh Chhatra League men at a Buet hall on October 7.

Replying to a question, Minister Anisul said holding the trial of the offences of ragging through the court is the only way for stopping the ragging.
