‘Gas explosion,’ 3 burnt in Dhaka

Three members of a family were burnt in a fire at a house in Jurain area of Dhaka early today.

Khorshed Alam, 40, a Rickshaw puller, his wife, Johura Begum, 35, and their son Rifat, 6, are receiving treatment at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.

The fire broke out at Khorshed’s house when he woke up to light a cigarette around 2:30am, Abdur Razzak, officer-in-charge of Shympur Police Station, said adding that police suspected the fire originated from a gas leak.

Khorshed was suffering from 28 percent burn injuries while Johura 14 percent and their child Rifat 1 percent injury, OC Razzak added.
