Girl stabbed dead by 'drug addict' in Chapainawabganj
A student was stabbed dead and three others injured by a ‘drug addict’ in Chapainawabganj Sadar this morning.
Deceased Konika Rani, 14 was a student of class-X of Mahipur SM Dwimukhi High School of Chapainawabganj Sadar upazila, reports our local correspondent.
The injured -- Tareen Afroz of Diyar Bhainagar village, Tanjima Akter of Arunbari village and Mariom Akter of Behula village of the upazila -- were all students of class-X of the same high school.
Rani and her friends came under attack while they were returning home from private coaching, said Suptara Begum, an eye witness of the incident.
The attacker, Abdul Malek, 28, wielding a sharp weapon swooped on the girls around 9:15am, Suptara added.
Malek, a resident of Baluga Diyar village, is a drug addict, informed Khairul Islam, the private tutor of the victims.
Locals rushed, rescued Rani, Tareen, Tanjima and Mariom to the Chapainawabganj Sadar Hospital where Rani was declared dead by on-duty doctors.
Of the injured, Tareen was later shifted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
Locals caught Malek from the spot and handed him over to the police, said Mazharul Islam, officer-in-charge of Chapainawabganj Sadar Police Station.
The motive behind the killing could not be known immediately.
