LGED official, 2 others killed in Dinajpur road crashes
A government official was killed in a road accident yesterday morning when he was travelling to Dinajpur to attend the prime minister's video conference.
Afzal Hossain, 59, was the additional chief engineer of Local Government Engineering Department's Rangpur divisional office.
The accident happened when the driver of his official car lost control and hit a roadside tree at Uchitpur village in Chichirbandar Upazila around 9:00am.
The official died on the spot.
Locals took his injured driver Md Hafizur Rahman to M Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital in Dinajpur.
Hafizur later told reporters that Afzal was scheduled to attend the video conference at Dinajpur deputy commissioner's office yesterday morning.
"I was giving way to another vehicle coming from the opposite direction on the Dinajpur-Gobindganj Highway but I lost control," he said.
Dinajpur LGED Executive Engineer Khalilur Rahman said Afzal's body had been handed over to his family.
2 KILLED BIRAL UPAZILA
Two women, including a college teacher, were killed and 15 others injured after a passenger bus hit a roadside tree in Biral Upazila's Dhukurjhari village yesterday.
Anjuman Ara Begum, 45, a lecturer at Dhukurjhari College, was killed on the spot. Another woman, 45-year-old Aklima Khatun, succumbed to her injuries at M Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital.
