School entry: Govt mulls 40% quota for local students
The government is planning to introduce 40 percent quota for local students in secondary school admission across metropolitan cities in the country.
Though no decision has been finalised yet, a meeting was held at the education ministry today over the matter after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's directive in this regard.
"According to plans, each school will reserve 40 percent seats for students around their vicinity," Ruhi Rahman, joint secretary of secondary education of the ministry, told reporters this afternoon.
Regarding the meeting, she said: "We reached a consensus in this regard but no decision has been finalised yet."
"We will hold more meetings and talks with the government high ups and others concerned officials to discuss how the plan can be implemented successfully," she said.
On October 12, PM Hasina told authorities concerned to ensure admission of every child in their local schools. She said it is the right of a child to get admission in the schools of the area they live in.
