Graft case: HC rejects Tarique’s mother-in-law’s plea
The High Court today rejected a writ petition filed by BNP leader Tarique Rahman’s mother-in-law Syeda Iqbalmand Banu seeking a stay on the trial procedure of a corruption case against her.
The HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Amir Hossain summarily rejected the writ petition with some observations.
The observations will be known when the court will release its written order, Anti Corruption Commission’s lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan told The Daily Star.
The lawyer refused to make any comment whether the case against Banu will run at the trial court as the HC will give some observation in this regard.
The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the case against Banu with Ramna Police Station on January 30, 2014, for not submitting her wealth statements to it.
On January 26, Banu filed the petition with the HC praying to this court to quash the proceedings of the case and direct the ACC to issue a fresh notice asking her to submit her wealth statements.
Banu did not reply to ACC's notice of October 10, 2011, saying that she had not received it, Khurshid added.
