Graft case: SC upholds Manju’s acquittal
The Supreme Court today upheld a High Court judgement that scrapped the 13-year jail sentence against Environment and Forest Minister Anwar Hossain Manju in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission.
A four-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha passed the order dismissing an appeal filed by the ACC challenging the HC verdict.
On August 10 in 2010, the HC scraped a lower court verdict that had jailed Manju for 13 years for illegally amassing wealth worth around Tk 2 crore and concealing the information from the ACC. A special court pronounced the verdict on August 26, 2008.
The HC came up with the order in response to an appeal filed by Manju on February 14, 2009 against the lower court verdict.
