‘Gunfight’: Badda Jubo League leader killed
A former president of Badda’s Shimultala unit Jubo League, the youth wing of ruling party, has been killed in what police said gunfight in Gazipur.
He is the fourth frontline activist of the Awami League to have died in “gunfight” with law enforcers, days after the triple murder in Badda.
The deceased was identified as Saidul Islam, 35, son of Jaimot Ali was a former Jubo League president of Badda’s Shimultala unit in Dhaka.
Saidul was arrested last night and taken to South Salna village of Gazipur city corporation, our local correspondent reports quoting Amir Hossain, an inspector of Gazipur Detective Branch.
“He was accompanied in a raid to seize ammunition around 11:30pm. Saidul’s cohorts opened fire on the spot and tried to snatch him away. Police fired back in defence,” the inspector said.
After the “gunbattle” ended, Saidul was found lying on the spot and rushed to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital where on-duty doctors declared him dead.
Two cops—Yasin, 30 and Ujjal, 31 – also said to have sustained injuries.
Ranjit Kumar Pal, duty doctor of Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital confirmed that Saidul died under treatment soon after he was taken to the hospital.
Saidul was an accused in two cases with with Joydebpur Police Station. “He was also wanted in Badda Police Station for five cases including two murders,” said MA Jalil, officer-in-charge of the police station.
