Gunfight over land dispute leaves 30 hurt in Sylhet
At least 30 people were injured during a gunfight between two groups of villagers over a land dispute in Shahjigaon village under Bishwanath upazila of Sylhet district on Monday night.
Of the injured, 12 were admitted to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital while the rest to Bishwanath Upazila Health Complex.
Quoting locals, police said there had been a longstanding dispute between Manik Miah and Mustab Ali of the village over the ownership of a piece of land.
Following an altercation over the issue, the supporters of the two rival groups traded gunshots, leaving at least 30 people from both sides injured.
Informed by locals, police rushed to the spot, dispersed the clashing groups and brought the situation under control.
No case was filed with Bishwanath Police Station as of filing of this report at 5:00pm yesterday.
Md Masudur Rahman, officer-in-charge (investigation) of the police station said police have been deployed in the area to avert further clash.
