Habiganj war crimes suspect arrested
Police arrested a war crimes suspect in Moulvibazar Sadar upazila early today, two days after a court issued an arrest warrant against him for his alleged crimes committed in Habiganj during the country’s Liberation War in 1971.
On secret information, a team of Moulvibazar Sadar and Baniarchang police of Habiganj jointly conducted a raid in the hilly areas of Atangiri and arrested Abdur Razzak from an abandoned house around 5:00am, said Abdus Salek, officer-in-charge of Moulvibazar police station.
He was arrested for his alleged involvement with the war crimes and also in connection with a murder case, said Nirmalendu Chakraborty, OC of Baniarchang Police Station of Habiganj.
The International Crimes Tribunal-2 on May 17 issued an arrest warrant for him after prosecution filed a petition seeking the warrant last week.
The prosecution claimed that the investigation agency found the involvement of Razzak, a cousin of the alleged Razakar -- Muhibur Rahman Boromian, 65, and Mujibur Rahman Angur Mian, 60.
The agency found Razzak’s involvement with wartime offences when it was investigating was crimes allegation against the duo.
