Hindu trader killed, ‘IS claims responsibility’
A Hindu shoe trader was murdered at his shop in Gobindaganj Upazila of Gaibandha this morning.
Hours later, a tweet posted by US-based SITE Intelligence Group said international militant outfit Islamic State (IS) had claimed responsibility of the murder.
Being informed by the family, police recovered the body of Debesh Chandra Pramanik, 66, at 6:00am, reports our Gaibandha correspondent.
Police arrested one Nipen Chandra, 35, of the area in this connection, said Gaibandha Police Superintendent (SP) Ashraful Islam.
However, the SP denied link of IS with the murder, saying that they were investigating killing.
An hour after Debesh went to his shop this morning, the victim’s wife Ananda Rani Pramanik went to the shop and saw four persons including Nipen Chandra fleeing from shop.
Alarmed at their fleeing, Ananda Rani with some locals entered into the shop and found Debesh lying in pool of blood.
Later, the body was sent to Gaibandha hospital for autopsy, police said.
