Bus strike halts Mymensingh’s road link with Dhaka
The road communication of Mymensingh with Dhaka and three other districts remains suspended as transport owners are observing an indefinite strike for the second consecutive day today.
The transport owner enforced the strike yesterday afternoon protesting an alleged “assault” on some transport workers by some bus staff of the run Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) at a terminal in Shambhuganj Bridge area.
“We are continuing the strike for the second consecutive day protesting the incident,” Md Ali Hossain, join secretary of Mymensingh District Motor Vehicle Workers’ Union told our Mymensingh correspondent today.
Md Mahbubur Rahman, secretary of Zila Motor Malik Samity in Mymensingh, yesterday told the correspondent when two BRTC buses from Netrakona stopped in front of two counters at Shambhuganj Bridge terminal, the transport workers protested it that led to an altercation among them around 11:00am.
At one stage, BRTC staff “assaulted” some workers, Md Mahbubur said.
“Hearing the news, we along with some other leaders of the association visited the spot,” said the leader.
“Later, we talked with the leaders of bus owners association and decided and stopped the services from Sherpur, Netrakona and Kishoreganj through Mymensingh and towards Dhaka around 2:00pm,” said the leader.
