Indefinite strike on Dhaka-Sylhet highway from tomorrow
Transport Workers Union today called for indefinite strike on Dhaka-Sylhet highway from tomorrow in protest against the killing of a driver of Syamoli Paribahan by angry passengers at Dhaka last night.
Earlier on Monday night, a group of angry passengers allegedly beat bus driver Babul Debnath as the vehicle was late in reaching Sayedabad bus terminal from Sylhet and escaped the spot leaving him critically injured.
He was later rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital around 11:30pm where attending doctors declared him dead.
“We will go for the strike on Dhaka-Sylhet highway for indefinite period from 6:00am tomorrow (Wednesday), protesting the killing,” Selim Ahmed Falik president of Sylhet district bus workers union told our Moulvibazar correspondent.
“We will continue the strike until the killers are brought to book,” the transport leader warned.
The inter-district bus from Sylhet was supposed to reach Dhaka around 10:00pm, but it was delayed by an hour.
