A group of Jahangirnagar University (JU) teachers today besieged the vice-chancellor's office and staged a sit-in protesting “assault” on their colleagues on April 17.

As part of their scheduled programme, around 30 teachers took position in front of the office of VC Prof Farzana Islam around 9:00am today.

Soon after the alleged assault on the teachers by their colleagues loyal to the VC, a programme was announced to hold a two-day protest programme against the VC on April 30 and May 3.

“We will further continue our protest on May 3 as well, until our demand is met,” Prof Farid Ahmed, a teacher of philosophy, told our JU correspondent.

The anti-VC group have brought many allegations against the VC Prof Farzana Islam, and one of them is that she has forcibly "removed" nine hall provosts on April 11 by exercising special rights, and appointed new ones.

The anti-VC group have also been demonstrating in demand of removal of the university’s proctorial body.

The teachers also alleged that VC appointed those who had been involved in controversial activities on the campus. However, Prof Farzana denied all the allegations.

A three-member probe body was formed to investigate the matter, however, the group rejected the probe body and demanded for a judicial inquiry instead.
