President’s intervention sought for solving JU crisis
A section of teachers of Jahangirnagar University today sought intervention of President Md Abdul Hamid, also the chancellor of the university, to resolve the ongoing crisis as students are observing an indefinite strike demanding resignation of the Vice Chancellor for her alleged involvement in graft.
The teachers issued a notification in this regard, which was signed by President of Jahangirnagar University Teachers’ Association Dr Ajit Kumar Majumder and Secretary Professor Dr Mohammad Sohel Rana.
“The teachers association is aggrieved by the ongoing crisis at Jahangirnagar University,” the notification said.
‘’We have taken a decision to seek intervention of the chancellor to improve the ongoing situation at Jahangirnagar University,” it added.
A section of teachers and students have been staging demonstration on the campus demanding VC’s removal since September 18 over corruption.
Last week, the protesters formed a “VC removal Mancha”.
The protest erupted on the campus on August 23, demanding a judicial inquiry into the reported involvement of the vice-chancellor in corruption and mismanagement of Tk 1,445 crore development projects on the campus.
