Jamaat calls hartal tomorrow over Quasem verdict
Jamaat-e-Islami has called for a dawn-to-dusk countrywide hartal (shutdown) tomorrow in protest against what it claims the government’s plot to kill the party leader Mir Quasem Ali in a war crime case.
The announcement was advertised on Jamaat-e-Islami’s website after the Supreme Court upheld the death penalty awarded to the condemned war criminal by the trial court.
In the advertisement, Jamaat also condemned the government for such conspiracy.
The apex court, while upholding death in one charge, acquitted the war criminal in three other charges where he was awarded death and various jail terms previously by a war crimes tribunal.
