Kibria murder: No bail for Gaus
The High Court today rejected bail for BNP leader and Habiganj municipality Mayor Golam Kibria Gaus in the killing case of ex-minister SAMS Kibria.
The bench of Justice Md Nuruzzaman and Justice Abdur Rob passed the order after arguments on the petition moved by the BNP leader.
M Masud Rana, a lawyer for Gaus, told The Daily Star his client will decide on moving a review against the High Court verdict after obtaining the copy of court’s full order.
Awami League leader and former finance minister SAMS Kibria and three others were killed in a grenade attack in Habiganj on January 27, 2005.
A lawyer Abdul Mojid Khan filed a murder case with Habiganj Police Station in this regard on January 28, 2005. Police submitted a charge sheet to a Habiganj court on December 10 last year.
Gaus surrendered to the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s court on December 28 last year in connection with the case since he was an accused in the charge sheet of the murder case.
The Habiganj court sent him to jail in connection with the case.
Gaus, who is now in the prison cell of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), filed the bail plea with the High Court on July 27.
Khandaker Mahbub Hossain appeared for Gaus while Attorney General Mahbubey Alam opposed the bail petition.
