Landslide kills 2 children in Bandarban

Two children were killed and their parents injured in a landslide caused by the heavy downpour for the last four days at Banorupa Para in Bandarban Sadar upazilla early today.

The deceased were Alif, 11, and his sister Mim, 8, children of Abdur Razzak of the area, reports our local correspondent quoting Imtiaz Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Bandarban Sadar Police Station.  

A portion of the soil broke loose and fell on their house at the foot of the hill around 3:00am leaving the two minor children dead on the spot and their parents injured, the OC said.

On information, firefighters with the help of local people rescued the bodies.

Around 30,000 people are dwelling their vulnerable lives in the hill district due to massive hill cutting and building houses on the hill slopes.
