Language veteran, journo Zainul Abedin laid to rest
Zainul Abedin, a Urdu speaking senior journalist and one of the 1952 Bengali Language Movement veterans, was buried at Intellectual Martyrs graveyard at Mirpur in Dhaka this afternoon.
The octogenarian journalist, also a famous Bengali and Urdu movie script writer, was laid to eternal rest at this special graveyard as mark of recognition of his contribution to the language and other progressive movement in the country.
He was buried around 3.30pm following his second Namaj-e-janaza at the Baitul Mukarram national mosque held after the Juma prayers.
Earlier, his first Namaj-e-janaza was held on the Jatiya Press Club premises at 9am.
Senior journalists including Jatiya Press Club President Muhammad Shafiqur Rahman, former President Khondoker Monirul Alam, Press Club Senior Vice President Saiful Alam, president of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) Manjurual Ahsan Bulbul and BFUJ Secretary General Omar Faruque, Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) President Saban Mahmud, DUJ General Secretary Sohel Haider Chowdhury and former BFUJ and DUJ leaders, among others, participated in the janaza.
Zainul Abedin, 81, breathed his last at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) last night.
