Lawyers meet Mojaheed ahead of tomorrow’s hearing
Convicted war criminal Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojaheed today instructed his lawyers to place some particular points on behalf of him at the Supreme Court during tomorrow’s hearing on his appeal filed seeking acquittal of all the charges.
The defence got the instruction when three of his counsels held a 30-minute meeting with him at Narayanganj District Jail around 10:30am.
However, Mojaheed’s lawyers did not disclose the legal points considering the matter subjudice.
Mojaheed hoped that the apex court will consider the arguments if his lawyers can place those properly, Shishir Manir, one of his lawyers who met him at the jail, told The Daily Star.
Mojaheed, secretary general of Jamaat, is mentally and physically well, Shishir said.
Two other lawyers who met with Mojaheed are: Ehsan Abdullah Siddique and Najibur Rahman.
On July 17 in 2013, the International Crimes Tribunal-2 found the 65-year-old Jamaat leader guilty of five out of seven charges brought against him.
The tribunal sentenced him to death in connection with three charges, jailed him for life in one and sentenced him to five years in prison in another charge.
According to the verdict, Mojaheed had led a “death squad” named Al-Badr that worked as an auxiliary force for the Pakistani army.
He filed the appeal with the SC on August 11 the same year, seeking acquittal of the charges.
