Lightning claims 7 lives in 3 districts
At least seven people, including two siblings, were killed by lightning during the nor'wester that lashed different parts of the country in last 24 hours till this morning.
In Chittagong, two minor children were killed as thunderbolt struck them while taking bath in a pond in Banskhali upazila around 9:30am today, Swapan Kumar Majumder, officer-in-charge of local police station, said quoting eyewitnesses.
The deceased are Mobarak Hossain, 10, and Jannaltul Bakeya, 8, son and daughter of Nurul Amin of Napoa village in the upazila, reports our Chittagong correspondent.
In Magura, three people were killed by lightning in Sadar upazila Friday evening, confirmed the residential medical officer of Magura Sadar Hospital.
Lightning killed Molin Hossain, 17, son of Mozaffar Hossain of Laxmipur village when he was going to a local bazar around 6:30pm on Friday.
Sindbad, 17, son of Muktar Mir of Anandabaria village was injured by the lightning when he was reading, sitting on the veranda around 6:00pm. He died on way to Magura Sadar Hospital.
Ibad Ullah, a resident of Gopalpur village, met the same fate during the storm.
In Jhenidah: Intaj Ali, 50, villager of Kumiradah in Shailkupa upazila, died as lightning struck him when he was returning home from Fazilpur bazar around 7:00pm yesterday.
Obaidullah, 40, of Paikpara village of the same upazila, was killed by lightning when he was working at his vegetable field.
Assistant superintendent of police of Jhenidah (Sadar Circle) Gopinath Kanjilal confirmed it to our district correspondent.
