One killed in Sylhet clash

A youth was killed and at least 50 other were hurt in a clash centring a waz mahfil (sermon session) in Jaintiapur, Sylhet early today.

The deceased was identified as Mujammil Hossain, 28, a student of Haripur Madrasha, our local correspondent reports quoting police.

The clash ensued when a group of people launched an attack on their rival group, Joynal Abedin, upazila chairman of Jaintiapur said quoting locals.

Several houses were reportedly torched in during the clash.

Law enforcers brought the situation under control overnight, Abul Hasnat Khan, additional superintendent of district police, said.
