Mahmudur Rahman freed on bail
After staying behind bars for over three-and-half years, acting editor of daily Amar Desh Mahmudur Rahman walked out on bail today.
Kashimpur Central Jail-2 senior jail Superintendent Proshanto Kumar Banik confirmed The Daily Star of his release around 1:00pm this afternoon.
“We completed scrutinising his release papers and let him go around 1:00pm,” he said.
Mahmudur Rahman was implicated with over 70 lawsuits including one filed over plots to abduct and kill Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s son Sajeeb Wazed Joy.
A former energy advisor and pro-BNP journalist, Rahman has been behind bars since April 11, 2013. The Supreme Court upheld his bail in the case on plots to kill Joy on October 31 and paved way for his release.
