4-month-old dies after medical error in Rajshahi
An infant died of medical error today in Rajshahi while undergoing treatment.
Four-month-old Musrat Jahan died at the Islami Bank Medical College Hospital around 3:00am, the hospital’s Deputy Director Mamunur Rashid said.
She was born on May 19 with no opening in her anus. She underwent surgery twice.
After the second surgery, doctors accidently burnt her while trying to revive her when she did not regain consciousness.
The hospital authorities discharged the baby several days later saying there would be no problems this time, according to Musrat’s mother. But the baby’s condition worsened within days.
The parents went from hospital to hospital where doctors gave conflicting advices.
Rajshahi Medical College doctors said that the baby’s condition would not permit surgery at that time.
Another private hospital doctors said the baby needed surgery “within a week” but they could not operate on her because she was “not fit.”
The baby’s parents took her home to wait as they did not have any other choice.
Following media attention, the Islami Bank Hospital had taken responsibilities for Musrat’s treatment.
