Mirza Abbas free to walk out of jail
The High Court today granted bail to BNP leader Mirza Abbas in a corruption case, clearing the way for his walk out of jail.
The Anti Corruption Commission filed the case with Shahbagh Police Station on March 6, 2014 on charge of causing the state a loss of Tk 16 crore by allocating seven acres of Rajuk's land to a journalists' cooperative society at a lower rate.
Mirza Abbas was the housing and public works minister during the BNP led four-party alliance government regime.
The HC bench of Justice Md Ruhul Quddus and Justice Mahmudul Hoque granted bail to Abbas after hearing a bail petition filed by him in connection with the case.
There is no legal bar to Abbas’s release from jail following the HC verdict, his lawyer Sagir Hossain Leon told The Daily Star.
He also said a Dhaka court on January 6 this year sent Abbas to jail after he surrendered to it in connection with the case.
