Murder case accused killed in ‘gunfight’
A murder case accused has been killed in gunfight between two groups of criminals in Satkhira Sadar upazila early today, police said.
The deceased was identified as Kabirul Islam, 45, of Kuchpukur village in Sadar upazila.
He was accused in five murder cases, said Mostafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Satkhira Sadar Police Station.
Of the cases, one was filed for killing a local Awami League leader, Nazrul Islam, who was shot dead by unidentified criminals on July 22, the OC said.
Champa Khatun, wife of Kabirul, told a correspondent that her husband was missing since August 27.
After being informed of a “gunfight” between two groups of criminals, a police team rushed to the village and found a bullet-hit body lying on the ground, the police official said.
Later, locals identified him as Kabirul Islam, according to police.
A pistol and a bullet were recovered from the spot. The body was sent to Satkhira Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
The process of filing a case is underway.
