Murder suspect caught by locals
Locals caught a man suspected of shooting and killing his associate in the capital's Badda yesterday afternoon.
They handed Nurul Islam alias Nuree, also a suspect in the killing of a manpower broker last year, over to the police as he was fleeing the shooting scene, police and locals said.
Nuree was caught with a loaded revolver, moments after he shot his associate, Badsha, at a fish market around 1:00pm, Kazi Wazed Ali, officer-in-charge of Badda Police Station, told The Daily Star.
The victim died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital around 6:00pm, police said.
Wazed said Badsha too was a wanted criminal.
Nuree is one of the four suspects who entered the office of Munshi Overseas at Banani and shoot its owner Siddik Hossen Munshi on November 14, 2017, said Mohammad Shajahan, additional deputy commissioner of detective branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
“We have been looking for him for a long time,” he added.
In primary interrogation, Nuree told police that he killed Badsha over money, said Shajahan.
Nuree, Badsha and several others were sitting at a fish market in Merul Badda yesterday afternoon when Nuree shot Badsha and tried to walk away, said Kalim Sardar, a fish trader, who along with other locals, caught Nuree.
“Hearing gunshots, I came out and tried to stop Nuree, who shot at me, but missed. Two others ran away.
“As Nuree's firearms did not work, I along with others chased him for 300 yards and caught him near Rampura Bridge,” said Kalim.
People beat Nuree up before handing him over to police.
ADC Shajahan said Nuree was accused in several cases and convicted in at least in two cases of robbery and possession of firearms.
